One of the biggest challenges when teaching gymnastics to adults is developing the mobility, strength and coordination required for backbends, bridges and walkovers.
Many adults have limited shoulder mobility, a stiff upper back and insufficient pushing strength. Forcing a bridge from the floor can place unnecessary stress on the lower back.
Elevate the feet. 🧠
This simple adjustment changes the mechanics of the exercise and allows us to progressively develop the movement.
Here’s what we’re targeting:
✅ Shoulder mobility - opening the shoulders and developing the overhead range required for a proper bridge.
✅ Back mobility - improving spinal extension while reducing the need to compensate excessively through the lower back.
✅ Pushing strength - developing the ability to support and transfer body weight through the arms.
✅ Coordination & body awareness - connecting all these physical abilities into one controlled gymnastics skill.
As control improves, we adjust the height and difficulty until the body is prepared for more advanced variations.
The goal isn’t to repeat a difficult skill hundreds of times. It’s to build the physical abilities that make the skill possible.
