Sandown tips
If we are stripping away the market leaders completely to focus purely on the high-value outsiders, we have to lean heavily on track dynamics to find our edge. Just like how a low draw dictates the competitive flow at the Chester May Festival, Sandown has its own distinct biases we can exploit.
Over Sandown's straight 5f sprint, there is a distinct advantage to being drawn low against the far rail. On the round course (1m and up), that right-hand bend heavily favors low numbers hugging the inside before horses hit the gruelling uphill finish.
Here is your value-only card for all seven races tonight, entirely avoiding the favorites:
# # # Race 1 (17:10) – 5f Handicap
**The Lost Sock**
* **The Angle:** You can put a line straight through his last run at Thirsk because he was badly hampered. He’s been dropped 2lbs, and trainer Roger Varian operates at a highly profitable strike rate with 3-year-olds at Sandown.
# # # Race 2 (17:42) – 5f National Stakes (Listed)
**Where Love Lives**
* **The Angle:** He won beautifully on his debut at Thirsk, and that form was heavily boosted when the runner-up subsequently came out and won at Chester. He is less exposed than the rest of the field and offers a much better price.
# # # Race 3 (18:12) – 2m Henry II Stakes (Group 3)
**Epic Poet**
* **The Angle:** He ran a very solid third in a York Group 2 earlier this month. He has the class to stay the 2-mile distance and is the smartest alternative to take on the front of the market.
# # # Race 4 (18:42) – 1m Heron Stakes (Listed)
**Nation's Hope**
* **The Angle:** He holds strong career metrics in what is a highly competitive race. He represents a solid double-digit price in a field where the leaders are priced uncomfortably short.
# # # Race 5 (19:12) – 1m 2f Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3)
**Almeric**
* **The Angle:** He ran a strong third over this exact course and distance last month in the Gordon Richards Stakes, so we know he handles the steep Sandown uphill finish well. He is a fantastic value play with Oisin Murphy in the saddle.
# # # Race 6 (19:45) – 1m Whitsun Cup Handicap
**Cogitate**
* **The Angle:** A tempting 12/1 shot for an open handicap. Top jockey William Buick taking the ride is a massive positive signal for his chances tonight.
# # # Race 7 (20:20) – 1m Handicap
**Darzah**
* **The Angle:** A consistent performer flying entirely under the radar compared to the recent Kempton winners in the field. He is a smart, quiet value play to close out the card.
